About
TL;DR: Welcome to #SoftwareAntifragility. A site/newsletter that aims to be a journal of my journey to antifragility in software engineering.
Backstage
I originally created this website as a Substack circa 2017 as a notepad for my PhD on Open Source and Software Resilience. I published it under softwareresilience.com.
I failed to follow up on that project so I thought I could retrospectively share the learnings of my academic and professional journey. And I did, for a while; 20+ posts worth of a journey.
I kept feeling that the name and the content of this Substack didn’t align. Instead of sharing content about Software Resilience I was mainly sharing lessons from my field work as an engineering leader 🙃.
I thought of starting a new Substack. But I didn’t want to let this one go and start from scratch. So I started thinking of ways to turn evolve it to something new; a concept worth investigating and field testing at the same time.
While I was struggling with these thoughts, “universe stepped in” 🤣. I received an offer to sell softwareresilience.com. It was the sign I was looking for.
Rebranding
Software Resilience is dead; long live Software Antifragility 🚀
From October 2025 onwards, this Substack will be served from www.softwareantifragility.com.
What you can expect after the rebranding:
New research related to software antifragility.
Opinion pieces on how software engineering roles, processes, tools, frameworks, etc, can impact the antifragility of a software.
Empirical insights of software antifragility in the Software as a Service industry.
Software Antifragility in the code spectrum: Closed Source - Inner Source - Open Source.
…and the occasional engineering leadership / miscellaneous post 😁.
NOTE: I will preserve the old posts as an archive, but the focus will (hopefully) change!
Unless I fail again!
Mini CV
I am Apostolos, a software engineer “made in Greece”. I am currently based in Thessaloniki serving as an Engineering Manager at InstaShop, a leading company in quick commerce scene in the MENA region. In the past, I collaborated as an Engineering Technical Lead, IT Expert and Software Engineer with companies and institutions like the European Commission, Toggl, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Center of Research and Technology Hellas, HELLENiQ ENERGY and more. I have also co-founded and served as the CTO at Social Mind, an e-commerce and digital marketing solutions agency in Greece, between 2014 and 2022 when I exited the board of directors and shareholders. Social Mind is still active and growing. I remain active as a researcher as well. Following the successful defense of my Ph.D., I am now studying Inner Source Software Engineering on a Post-Doctorate level.
